2000 Menghai "Date Fragrance" shou puerh
A beautifully aged loose leaf shou puerh from Menghai county, Yunnan, China. Ripe puerh is often classified into various grades by leaf size, as well as flavour profiles. For this tea, larger 8th grade leaves were selected, giving the tea a suiting more mellow character and a bit thinner mouthfeel. The tea was harvested in Spring of year 2000 and was piled (fermented) lighter than most contemporary shou puerhs, leaving it room to develop and change over the years to come. And indeed it has, the flavour is one of aged tea, attic-like, with a bit of a camphor-like touch, the flavour profiled as a classic "date fragrance" of "zao xiang" by our collector partner. The tea has been stored skilfully in Taiwan with no off-flavours.
Brewing suggestions: 5 grams of tea per 200ml of 100C water. Rinse the tea, 1st steeping 1min, 2nd steeping 1min, 3rd steeping 2min etc.
