Gyokuro, translated as "Jade Dew", is one of the most exclusive Japanese green teas that makes up only 0,25% of Japan's entire tea production. For Gyokuro, only the most delicate tea leaves are harvested from bushes that are covered for around three weeks to prevent direct sunlight from falling on the leaves. The exerts stress on the plant and activates biochemical processes in the leaf which create a sweet, tender and strongly umami-flavoured tea.

Our organic Gyokuro comes from Shibushi area in south-east of Kyushu. The tea is machine harvested for affordability in first days of May from the rare Sae Midori cultivar bushes that are known for their delicate aromatics. The bushes are shaded for 22 days and the final heating (hire) is done very lightly, resulting in a light and sweet, fruity, highly aromatic tea with low astringency. Compared to our previous Gyokuro Sae Midori Premium, there's a less emphasis on the umami, the flavour is more fruity and lighter. Tea is certified EU organic.
